After You Are Accepted

New interns will be contacted shortly after matching and acceptance with information and instructions regarding the confirmation fee and internship requirements. The following items will be required of all incoming interns:

1. An Original Verification Statement

Each intern must send in a DPD verification statement which shows completion of an ACEND® accredited DP program.  Please send this form to;

 

 

2. Two official transcripts 

These should be from each institution you have attended for all required degree and Dietetics Program (DP) courses (this may include graduate school transcripts). These may be ordered in advance and sent in separately. The official transcripts need to include the date when your BS degree was conferred. Failure to produce these documents may result in a delay in the start of the internship program.  This proof of your baccalaureate degree needs to be from an accredited institution and must be received before the internship begins in August.

3. Proof of Master's Degree or Master's Degree Enrollment

Starting in the fall of 2023, initiation or completion of a master's degree by the intern is required to be able to start the program. Interns must provide proof of completion of a master's degree, or show that they are enrolled in a master's program prior to the start of the internship. This proof needs to be emailed to the DI director, Sherri Isaak at isaak@andrews.edu.

4. Immunizations

Interns must provide proof of current immunizations as required by the assigned site. 

5. Medical Insurance

• Interns must provide proof of medical insurance coverage. Student insurance coverage can be purchased through AU.

• Interested students should contact Student Insurance by email at stuins@andrews.edu in the office of Human Resources for more information.

6. Auto Insurance

• Interns must provide proof of current auto insurance.

• Interns must provide their own transportation throughout the internship.

  • be prepared to travel up to ~1 hour for specialty rotations.

7. Liability Insurance

The University provides all interns with liability insurance. 

8. Background Checks

• All sites require criminal background checks.

• Failure of a background check will result in immediate dismissal from the program.

9. Drug Screening

• Some sites require drug screening.

• Failure of a drug screen will result in immediate dismissal from the program.

10. Lab Coats and Professional Attire

All interns must provide their own lab coats, scrubs or other required uniform based on internship site. Interns will be required to dress in professional attire at all assigned sites.

11. Computer Access

Interns are required to have daily access to a personal laptop computer and to have an active email account - no exceptions.

Interns should have a working knowledge of Power Point, Excel and Microsoft Word. 

12. Financial Aid:

Since the Dietetic Internship provides graduate credits, the intern is eligible to apply for financial aid/student loans.  

Scholarships may be available through the state dietetic associations and/or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It may be possible for students to obtain loan deferment for student loans while enrolled in the program.

13. Housing:

Because this program can be challenging, housing arrangements should be made prior to starting. The following links may be helpful in locating housing:

Please contact the Internship Director to be put into contact with a current/former intern who may be able to provide you with first-hand knowledge regarding housing near your assigned site.

14. Summer Preparation:

Interns are expected to have a working knowledge of nutrition assessment, MNT, food service, community nutrition, and other areas of dietetics.  Please begin studying over the summer to prepare for internship experiences and exams, including an entrance exam which will be administered the week prior, or during orientation.
