Daniel Augsberger Teaching Award
Our very own Professor Dr. Darah Regal accepted the prestigious Daniel Augsberger Teaching Award on Sunday, February 28, 2011 at the Faculty Staff Awards Night held on Andrews University’s Howard Performing Arts Center. Her excellence in teaching and spiritual mentorship lends her this honor.
Since joining the SPLAD department, Professor Regal has consistently demonstrated an optimistic and enthusiastic attitude with regard to her students’ ability to learn. She has also been open to acquiring new teaching strategies that would assist the students in mastering difficult audiological concepts. These include: (a) scheduling multiple exam review sessions—including pizza parties at her home; and (b) being available for one-on-one tutoring sessions for students. As these examples illustrate, Professor Regal has always been willing to go the second, third or even hundredth mile to ensure students’ success. As a teacher, Dr. Regal is intentional about integrating her faith into her teaching. Some of the students’ most vivid memories are those that center around her meaningful devotionals and earnest prayers. Professor Regal certainly does her part to ensure that graduates of the department of Speech-Language Pathology are well-prepared to Seek Knowledge, Affirm Faith and Change the World—and is well-deserving of this teaching award.
