Steps to correct poorly stained blood smears if no
new blood smears can be made
Rinse in absolute methanol
Increased cell type with disease:
Gaucher’s disease =
Change stain and buffer to insure correct pH
Re-stain blood smear
Monocytes
Infectious mono =
Lymphocytes
Viral infections =
Lymphocytes
Hodgkin’s disease =
Monocytes
Bacterial infections =
Neutrophils
Parasitic infections =
Eosinophils
