If the leak is small and only fluid leaks
out it will falsely elevate Hct but if RBC leak out then the Hct will be falsely lowered.
When comparing a spun Hct
with a calculated Hct done on electronic cell counters, which will be higher and why:
The spun Hct will be
higher due to plasma being trapped between red blood cells thus lowering
the fluid portion
If plug at end of
microhematocrit tube leaks during centrifugation the hematocrit will be fasley raised or lowered:
