Precautions – Policies I
1. Protect mucous membranes –
masks/shields
2. Protective gloves to be worn
3. Impermeable lab coats to be worn
in lab
4. Hand washing to be practiced
5. Never recap needles
6. Centrifuge specimens with lids on
7. Use leak proof specimen containers
8. Do not pipet by mouth
9. No precaution labels allowed on
specimens
10. Decontaminate work station each
shift
11. Decontaminate instruments prior to
servicing
12. Use biohazard waste containers –
clearly marked
13. Use sharps containers – clearly
marked
