Special Stains – Heinz Bodies-II
Application:
When oxidative products increase in the red cell it may cause the hemoglobin to denature and precipitate forming single or multiple round, oval, or serrated bodies close to cell membrane. These are called “Heinz bodies”.
Heinz bodies are nor seen on Wright-Giemsa stained blood smears but when macrophage removes them they create “bite cells” which can be seen.
