Requirements
Color of stopper in vacutainer tube:
Light blue
Sodium citrate (0.109 M or 0.129 M)
9 parts blood to 1 part sodium
citrate (+ or – 10%)
Anticoagulant used:
Ratio of anticoagulant to blood:
Many labs may still require that it
be drawn as 2nd tube when only drawing coagulation tubes
(1st tube is a discard or extra tube)
Order of drawing specimen:
If other tubes to be drawn coag tube
must be drawn before EDTA
