Function:
Measures primary hemostasis, specifically platelet function
Specimen requirements:
Routine sodium citrate specimen
Principle of test:
A platelet count is performed on the specimen then an aliquote of the specimen is poured into a column containing glass beads. A platelet count is then performed on the aliquote collected after passing through the glass bead column.
Normal range:
26 – 60% reduction from pre-column to post-column platelet counts
