Udetection of antigen-specific antibodies
when an infectious
disease is suspected has two major clinical applications:
ediagnosis
of primary (recent) infection
-antigen-specific
IgM must be present in specimen collected during 1st week of symptoms
-recent
infection confirmed by a four-fold or higher increase in antigen-specific IgG
titer between
acute and convalescent specimens
