titer is an expression that refers to the concentration of antigen-specific
antibodies in a particular serum dilution.
Uit is
reported as the highest (last) dilution in which the antigen-antibody reaction is visible (1+)
using a serial dilution
technique.
Ublood samples
are collected and tested as follows:
eacute phase -
when symptoms are seen
econvalescent
phase - about 2 weeks after acute sample taken.
Ua 4-fold
increase in titer from acute to convalescent indicates a current infection.
