Gel Technology
•When was it developed:
•Gel suspended anti-IgG contained in pre-filled plastic cards
•What does it consist of when used for antibody screening or ID:
•1985
•DAT in newborns, ASC, and antibody identification (Panels)
•What are the applications:
•Diluted patient (if DAT),screening or panel cells are added to column, then patient plasma is added (not if DAT), incubation for 15 minutes followed by centrifugation for 10 minutes. Agglutinated red cells will be trapped in gel while non-agglutinated cells form button on bottom.
•Principle:
•ABO typing – does not contain anti-IgG in gel
