G0 phase:
Resting phase
RNA and protein synthesis phase
Pre-mitotic phase
G1 phase:
M phase:
S phase:
DNA synthesis phase
G2 phase:
Mitotic phase
Mitotic Index (MI) = % of cells in mitotic phase
Normal MI = 1 – 2%
MI > 2% = increased proliferation
MI < 2% = seen in megaloblastic anemia where decreased proliferation but cells longer in M phase
