1. Recognize CBC, retic counts, and bone marrow findings consistent with megaloblastic anemia.

2. Describe the biochemical basis for development of anemia with deficiencies of vitamin B12 and folic acid and explain the etiology of the accompanying macrocytosis.

3. Recognize individuals at risk for megaloblastic anemia by age, race/ethnicity, diet, and certain physiologic and pathologic conditions.
