Etiology:
Abnormality
of the vascular endothelium due to autoimmune disorders suggest
an immunologic etiology
Thrombotic deposition:
Platelets
adhere to damaged endothelium

aggregate (stick to each other)
Coagulation
system initiated with fibrin strands forming
Role of von Willebrand factor:
Abnormally
large vWF molecules seen in TTP patients in remission
may trigger platelet adhesion
Viral
induced TTP may be possible
