Solubility Test
When
RBCs containing HbS are mixed with a reducing substance
such as sodium dithionite the HbS is insoluble and precipitates
causing increased turbidity
1. Blood is placed in a tube and
sodium dithionite
is added
2. The tube may then be centrifuge at
specific rcf
3. Tubes are then held up to a series
of lines
for interpretation
