M3:
Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia accounts for 15% of AML
Two types:
Hypergranular M3
>30% are myeloblasts and promyelocytes with heavy granulation
Numerous Auer rods seen (faggot cells)
Very fine granulation
Cells lack HLA-DR/a
Features of both types
Cells are strongly MPO/SBB positive
Microgranular M3
Chromosome translocation t(15;17)
Abnormal retinoic acid (vitamin A) receptor
May have D.I.C
