Diffuse proliferation of small neoplastic lymphoid cells intermingled with lighter staining histiocytes giving a “starry-sky” appearance to biopsies

American/sporadic:
7 year olds with large jaw mass
Older children and adults with large abdominal mass
Viral association:
EBV nucleic acid recovered in 80% of Burkitt cases
Cell lineage:
Mature B-cells
