Therapy for AML - 1
Criteria for remission:
Normal peripheral blood parameters
<5% blasts in bone marrow
Frequency of achieving remission:
60 – 80% if <60 years of age
Failure to achieve remission:
1. Leukemic cell eradicated but patient does not recover from hypoplasia.
2. Leukemic cells resistant to cytotoxic drugs.
3. Patient dies from infection or hemorrhage.
4. Patient has rapid relapse.
Bone marrow transplant:
If <50 years of age this is an option
