Other Coagulation factors - I
Factor XIII:
When activated by thrombin it is called XIIIa
It is classed as a transglutaminase
It catalyzes the cross-linking of glutamine and lysine to stabilize fibrin polymers
Fibrinogen:
The ultimate substrate
Consists of two sets of three different polypeptide chains:
Alpha, beta, and gamma
Thrombin cleaves the polypeptide chains to produce:
Fibrinopeptides A – split from alpha chains
Fibrin monomers
Also an acute-phase protein which increases in concentration during tissue inflammation causing an increased ESR.
Fibrinopeptides B – split from beta chains
