Predictor value:
Positive correlation with risk of MI in patients with angina pectoris as well as normal patients
High I + high Cholesterol = high risk of MI
No therapeutic means of lowering factor I levels by itself. It is lowered by exercise, cholesterol lowering drugs, and quitting smoking
Low I + high Cholesterol = low risk of MI
Why it isn’t used as Predictor of MI:
Thus no clinical trials to prove lowering factor I levels lowers risk of MI
Fibrinogen assays are non-standardized
