Incidence:
Any age group but majority are:
20 – 25 year olds
2-3 times higher in
females than males
Platelet life span reduced from 7-10
days normal to a few hours
Platelet counts:
Antibodies (IgG) attach to surface
of platelets and then platelets are removed by RES
Mechanism:
30.0 – 80.0 x 109/L
Platelet morphology:
Normal appearing but larger than
normal
