Serotonin
release assay:
Dense granules of platelets can
rapidly store serotonin which is the released upon activation of platelet
Principle:
Washed normal platelets
are incubated with radioactive serotonin then washed
If heparin-induced
antiplatelet antibodies are present they will attach to platelet causing them to release
radioactive serotonin into plasma
Same as for aggregation
test plus dealing with radioactive material
Radioactive serotonin
rich platelets then added to serum/plasma of patient along with heparin
