Bleeding Time - 1
Principle:
The time of bleeding from a controlled puncture wound
Which phase of hemostasis is measured:
Primary hemostasis
Pressure cuff placed on upper arm and set at 40 mm Hg
Procedure:
A site on volar surface of forearm selected which is free from visible blood vessels, scars, rashes, and hair
A spring-loaded lancet is placed on site, parallel to long axis of arm, and trigger pressed. The stopwatch is started at same time.
Site is washed with alcohol
Blood is absorbed onto filter paper every 30 sec.
Timing stopped when no blood shows on filter paper
