People always ask me how I deal with this disease? How I'm always out smiling and joking around? I simply say, I love my life and Im not gonna stop living it even if I have a life threatening disease.
The Some common symptoms are ......
Normal humans are bore with circular red blood cells, but sickle cell carriers' red blood cells are mutated into the form of a sickle
Because the red blood cells have been mutated, they take on different characteristics than normal red blood cells. These mutated red blood cells becomes sticky and when a whole lot of them clump and stick together, they block of oxygen to different parts of the body. Wherever that blockage is, it causes extreme pain in the area.
When oxygen is cut of from areas to the body, major organs can start to deteriorate over time. Many die from the extensive damage to there vital organs. The picture below is deteriorated spleen of a subject after living with sickle cell for years.
Knowing all that I know about this disease and all that I have gone through with this disease, I am not fazed by this. This disease has made me stronger in many ways. I am not going to lay down waiting to die, I am going out and enjoy life to the fullest. My advice to those younger ones now starting out with it is to fight. Fight it with all you got. Don't ever give up on life no matter how hard it gets foe you. God would never put you through something you could not handle.
