Good Morning Dear Members:

One of the questions I asked was, "If there are three important issues that need to be discussed, what would they be?"

Here is a summary of your input:
1. Enhance communication between Seventh-day Adventist librarians.
2. Serve as a forum for discussion of mutual problems and professional concerns of Seventh-day Adventist
    librarians.
3. Promote librarianship and library services to Seventh-day Adventist institutions.
4. Improve professional skills through seminars, workshops, etc.
5. Strategies for keeping students focused on educational activities while using the Internet.
6. Suggestions for interesting new biographies for the middle grades(6-8).
7. Help shape the direction and plans for SDA School Libraries.
8. Affirm academy and church school librarians, teacher/librarians, library volunteers.
9. Promote Library Services to students & teachers.

For a Pre-Conference this came:

Since this is a new start something like "Creating (Designing, Charting, etc) our Future." would make a nice theme for the pre-conference. Topics could include Vision for School Library Leadership (from the school building level to the NAD); Why we need School Librarians; How Technology Can Serve School Libraries; Collaborating with Teachers and Principals; Networking with other School Librarians; Creating a SL Consortia, (off the top of my head--they may need refining).

ASSIGNMENT:

In order to go forward with these issues, we need to get more people on board. In our Membership Directory I counted eight school librarians. Nancy Kim is our Membership Secretary. Nancy, I would like to contact them personally and invite them to join the discussion.

An important issue is our Annual Conference in June. Question: Shall we conduct a Pre-Conference or arrange breakout sessions during the conference? There are pluses and minuses on both options. May I have your answer by the end of next week? We really need to start planning.

Let's pray: Our Lord and Helper, we realize the most unfortunate fact that 4 out of 10 who are in our schools will turn their backs on your church and some will on You. As we labor to help students & teachers, please let us find a component, which will minister to that need. I pray for Paulette, who is leading us this year, Nancy, who is trying to bring before others the need to join us, to better serve our students; Katie and Robert, who will work on projects, and bless me with wisdom and skills to find the direction you would like us to go, and then endow me with courage and perseverance to see things through. Grant us all a Sabbath rich with nourishment and strength. Thank you so much Lord, Amen.
