The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the release of its new CD, Andrews University Symphony Orchestra, 2004-2005, the proceeds from which will help fund the orchestra's Sinfonietta 2006 Europe trip.

Under the direction of Claudio Gonzalez, the orchestra performs selections by Corelli, Handel, Haydn, Beethoven, Glazunov, and Faure. All selections are from the 2004-2005 season and were recorded in the Howard Performing Arts Center.

Initiated last September at the suggestion of senior music education major Ezra Haugabrooks, the CD took five months to produce. Haugabrooks decided that Gonzalez shouldn't have to tackle all the trip's fundraising, so he proposed that Gonzalez collect the orchestra's finest Howard Center recordings on a CD. "[The orchestra members] enjoyed the repertoire and the performances in general," Haugabrooks comments, "so we were sure people would pay for it."

After the recordings had been selected, Haugabrooks, who had previously released a CD of his own performances, collaborated with Andrews graduate Sarah Spangler, a local photographer and designer, to design and edit the recording's cover.

Gonzalez, along with orchestra members, hope sales from the CD will help with the expenses for this summer's much anticipated European tour, the first international tour the orchestra has participated in.

"The Sinfonietta trip is one of the most exciting experiences that the members of our AU orchestra have ever undertaken," says Gonzalez. In addition to performing in acclaimed conservatories and concert halls from Florence, Italy to Nuremberg, Germany, orchestra members will earn credits and tour locations and landmarks of historical, cultural, and musical significance.

Andrews University Symphony Orchestra, 2004-2005 is currently on sale at the Andrews University bookstore for $12. Those who can't make it to the bookstore can secure a copy by asking any orchestra member or calling Gonzalez directly at (269) 471-3556.
