In honor of Earth Day 2008, an Eco Concert followed by an Eco Rally will take place on Tuesday, April 22 on the campus of Andrews University. All are welcome to participate in these events.

The Eco Concert will take place at 5:30 pm at the steps to the James White Library. The community and campus alike are invited to “go green” while enjoying the music of the student musicians of the Andrews University Drum Corp and Christian band Honest Knobby; student solo artists Alli Schwirzer and Brian Szaflarski; and Garage Voice, a Christian band based in Seattle, Wash. The concert is courtesy of the Student Senate, ACTION and the Village Green Preservation Society—student-led organizations—as well as University Senate, a consortium of faculty and staff.

Immediately following the Eco Concert, an Eco Rally will start at 7 pm in the Seminary Chapel featuring a representative from Gateway Recycling; Leeor Schweitzer, a representative of EnvOrg and several other student activist groups at Kalamazoo College; Tom Goodwin, director of the Ad Hoc Committee for Greening AU and professor of paleobiology at Andrews University; Heather Knight, provost for Andrews University; Ben Chilson, director of Dining Services and assistant professor of nutrition at Andrews University; and other members of the faculty, administration and student body. Each will be presenting on current campus happenings affecting the environment—both good and bad—as well as possibilities for future initiatives at Andrews University. The rally will conclude with an invitation for all to sign a Go Green Pledge, a commitment to strive for living a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The Eco Rally is hosted by the University Senate, Student Senate, ACTION, and the Village Green Preservation Society, and sponsored by Apple Valley Market.

There will be a reception in the Seminary Commons following the rally. Student art highlighting an Earth Day theme will also be on display at various locations throughout campus throughout the week.

ACTION is a student-led social action group focused on education and direct community action. The Village Green Preservation Society is a sub-organization of ACTION dedicated to protecting the environment.
