Andrews University employees will help make the Andrews Study Bible central in the life of Andrews University freshmen at the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year, according to Ron Whitehead, assistant to the president for spiritual life.
Whitehead says the Fall Fellowship Committee, with the support of University administration, has set a goal of giving every incoming freshman a copy of the new Andrews Study Bible. “We’re asking our University family to share in the cost of putting this outstanding resource in the hands of our new students. We want to make it clear that the Bible is an absolute essential in the Andrews experience and the Andrews Study Bible is the ideal gift to accomplish that.”
The University will assume the first $20 of the cost of the Bible, Whitehead said. “After that, for every $25 employee donation to the Fall Fellowship Bible fund, a new freshman will receive the Bible.”
The Andrews Study Bible, published by Andrews University Press, was released in June, with the official launch at the General Conference Session in Atlanta, Ga. Funded by Andrews University and the General Conference, with oversight from church leaders and the Biblical Research Institute, its publication marks the first time an Adventist publishing house has released a formal, full-featured study Bible.
Whitehead said pledges and donations will be received throughout the summer, with the goal of having pledges in hand for all new students by the opening of Fall Fellowship on Friday, August 13. The sponsored Bibles will be featured during the Friday and Sabbath meetings of Fall Fellowship, with a special dedication during the church service at Pioneer Memorial Church.
“We need to sponsor 400 Bibles to be ready for our freshman this fall. We’ll keep a running count over the summer, as pledges and donations come in, with reminders to employees of how they can help.”
