Benjamin D. Schoun, general vice-president for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and Weymouth Spence, president of Washington Adventist University, are among the featured speakers for the Andrews University graduation weekend, July 29–31, 2011.

Commencement events begin Friday evening with the consecration service in the Pioneer Memorial Church and will continue with the baccalaureate church service, Sabbath afternoon certification and dedication services, Sabbath vespers, the President’s Reception and finally, the graduate and undergraduate commencement service Sunday morning.
Richard Davidson, J.N. Andrews professor of Old Testament interpretation at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, will offer the Consecration address, “Flame of Living Fire!” on Friday, July 29 at 8 p.m. in Pioneer Memorial Church.

Benjamin Schoun, general vice president for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and chair of the Andrews University Board of Trustees, will present the Baccalaureate address, “The Call,” on Sabbath, July 30 at 11:20 a.m. at Pioneer Memorial Church.
 
Schoun’s career in ministry has included serving as president of Adventist World Radio, president of the Atlantic Union Conference and the Northern New England Conference. Schoun spent 13 years at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary as a professor, program director and associate dean. He is a triple alumnus of Andrews University, holding a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry.

Additional departmental services are planned for Saturday, July 30, beginning with a Seminary Dedication Service at 4 p.m. in the Seminary Chapel. The Medical Laboratory Science Certificate Ceremony will take place in the Pioneer Memorial Church Youth Chapel at 5 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the Social Work Recognition Service will take place at the Fil-Am Seventh-day Adventist Church in Berrien Springs.
  
At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, a Sabbath Vespers tribute to parents, faculty and students will take place at Pioneer Memorial Church. Immediately following vespers (approximately 9:15 p.m.), the President’s Reception for graduates and their families will take place in the Great Lakes Room of Dining Services.

Weymouth Spence, president of Washington Adventist University, will give the Commencement address. Commencement begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, at Pioneer Memorial Church. The title of his address is “Make the Decision, Change the World.”

Prior to serving as the 19th president of Washington Adventist University, Spence served as the senior vice president for Academic Administration for Atlantic Union College and dean of the School of Health Professions at Baptist Health System, to name a few. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Atlantic Union College, a Master of Science from Central Connecticut State University and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.
