Autobiography

I was born on May 22, 1988 in Takoma Park, Maryland. I was born two years after my elder sister, Heather, and two years before my younger sister, Karen. Shortly after Karen was born we moved from Maryland to Berrien Springs, Michigan, where I have attend school at Ruth Murdoch Elementary School (RMES), and Andrews Academy (AA) from kindergarten through my senior year.

Throughout my life I have been blessed to have the ability to take family vacations throughout much of the United States, which has broadened my understanding of this world, and given me a larger perspective on life.

I am the son of two of the greatest parents in the world. My father, Jim Ford works in the Center for Adventist Research at Andrews University. My mother, Diane Ford works for Buchanan Family Medical Clinic as a nurse practitioner. Both of my parents are devout Seventh-Day-Adventists; faithfully attend Pioneer Memorial Church (PMC) every Sabbath morning. My sisters and I are also Seventh-Day-Adventist’s and are members of PMC.

My parents have always encouraged me to strive for the best, and to do what is best for me whether or not everyone else is doing it. In my 6th grade year at RMES I took the challenge and took 7th grade math. Consequently I was able to get a jump-start at the Academy level math, and stayed two grade levels ahead of my regular peers in the field of mathematics. During my junior year at Andrews Academy I enrolled in college level Calculus, and had one of the top scores in the class. I have found that if I look for the positive in things it is always easier to get through. I have been blessed to maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA throughout my high school experience even with taking college level math courses, and a wonderful after school job. I attribute my successes to having very supportive parents, a talent at avoiding stress, and most importantly, one awesome God.

I my 7th grade year I volunteered to help with the operation of the public address system at church. This volunteer work has grown to the point where I mix the audio for the radio broadcast as well as the video production that is broadcast globally. My involvement at the church has taught me a lot, and I am often called upon to use my technical talents.

I got my fist job when I was 14 at Apple Valley Market in the produce department. I was not able to get as many hours as I wanted at the grocery store, so I applied at the Andrews University Information Technology Services (ITS) Client Services department, where I was hired join the team that keeps the computers throughout campus working correctly. I worked at both jobs for several years until at the end of my Junior year when I was asked to join the Servers and Networks division of ITS. Since this work was more in my line of interest I accepted the job offer and resigned from Apple Valley Market. Along with my jobs at ITS I have also done computer work for various people in the community.

I love working with computers and technology, and solving problems, making engineering the career of choice for me. I hope to attend Andrews University majoring in engineering and/or computer science. At this point I do not know exactly what I want to do once college is behind me, but I know that if I trust in God he will guide me where he wants me to be.

I have always tried to live my life in such a way as to: learn something from everything, help others, live my life to the fullest, and trust fully in God.
