How to hide the gradebook total (final grade) temporarily from students:

1. Log into the course and then on menu bar click "This course" and choose "Grades".
2. In the Grader report page click "Turn editing on" on the menu bar.
3. Now when you scroll to the right of the assignments to the "Course total" there will be an "eye" icon
4. If you hover your mouse over that "eye" it says "Hide course total". Click on top of the first "eye" icon in the column and that puts a line through all the "eyes" in the column. Now that column is hidden from the students.
5. To show those totals at a later time follow the same steps and click the "eye" to "Show course total".
