The Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index provides citation indexing to over 40 past and present Seventh-day Adventist journals and magazines. The Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians supports and produces the Index at editorial offices located at Andrews University. Supporters include the Seventh-day Adventist college and university libraries in North America, the North American Division Office of Education, and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
The Index was first published in 1971. Currently the index covers the years 1973 to current, with updating done in real time. The exception is the Review and Herald which is currently undergoing retrospective indexing beginning with 1972 at the rate of roughly one year’s worth of articles a month.
After locating the article citation which meets your research needs, call or visit your nearest Seventh-day Adventist library. For those who are not located at or near a library with the periodical you need, or if the library does not have the issue you need, you can contact the Center for Adventist Research at Andrews University for information about obtaining a photocopy. Materials can be requested from the Center for Adventist Research via their Material and Research Request Form.
Online access may be available for recent issues of many of the titles. Be sure to verify your periodical’s title, issue, date, and article title, then go to the list of titles indexed for a web link to periodicals available online, in whole or in part. The Index has no control over what is available at periodical’s web sites. The publishers of the different periodicals generate and maintain these sites.
The Index also includes citations for obituaries found in Seventh-day Adventist periodicals. For more information, see the obituary information screen.
The Index produces an annual cumulative CD-ROM. Annual subscriptions are $20 for individuals, elementary schools and churches; $50 for secondary schools and 2- and 4-year colleges; $75 for institutions offering masters degrees; and $100 for institutions offering doctoral programs. Occasionally we get reports of individuals that are unable to access this Periodical Index. In every case so far, the problem has been resolved by allowing the firewall at your site access to port 82 at jewel.andrews.edu While some IT people are reluctant to do this, it can be restricted to only this site (jewel.andrews.edu).
