The Mat
Why would one wrestle? What would be the point of putting one's self through the pain and work that it takes to be a great wrestler? That is what this page is dedicated to. The reason why wrestlers have the drive they have.     Wrestling is a sport that I'm very passionate about. I believe it is the most important sport in the world for multiple reasons. The first being that, it's an individual sport. In other sports, when you lose, it can be blamed on other team mates, in wrestling, it's only you and one other man and only one comes out victorious. If you lose, there is no one to blame other than yourself.
The second reason I believe wrestling is the best sport in the world, would be the fact that, it's hard. The sport of wrestling requires very hard work and dedication. Wrestlers work harder than any other athhlete in practice, and when they compete. Between just the plain roughness of the sport to cutting weight to your diet for conditioning. Wrestlers are taught never to give up, and that transfers over into everything they do.
The third and final reason that wrestling is the most influential and important sport is because wrestling was the original sport. Wrestling was the first sport in the world. It's in the Bible and many other important documents that have been around longer than any other references to any other sports.
I remember being at a national tournament and seeing a young wrestler, only around 10 years old. His shirt had a picture of the classic huge wrestler with bulging muscles. The wrestler was holding a basketball. The top of the shirt said, "I'm a wrestler. If I wanted easy I'd play basketball." I found this shirt hysterical. But the fact of the matter is, it is true although basketball players may work hard, or players of any other sport, none work like a wrestler. The wrestling community may be large, but it is small compared to other sports. It is a tightly worked community of people who have similar qualities. I remember one day I was waiting for another wrestler. I'd never seen him before, I asked how I was supposed to know who he was. The person replied with, "You'll know him. He'll look like a wrestler." I knew that was right. Once again this page is dedicated to the importance of wrestling. I'd like to give you a link here where you can here one of the greats talk about what wrestling did for him. I'll leave it at that. Randy Couture Talks Wrestling
