Buchanan SDA Church Barn Conference

Buchanan SDA Church
Invites You! Join us at our second annual Barn Conference on September 12-13, 2014, as we relive the Pioneer experience and recall “the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history.” You are encouraged to wear period dress if you have some.
Why A Barn Conference?
After the Great Disappointment most Adventists either left religion or returned to their former denominations. Those who continued to believe in the soon coming of Jesus were scattered. They had different beliefs and opinions about what the Bible taught, were questioning the prophecies and the advent movement, and were discouraged. Of those who believed the 2300 day prophecy was fulfilled in October of 1844 there seemed to be three main leaders and centers of influence.
1. Hiram Edson was in Upstate New York and believed that the Judgment began in heaven known as the Day of Atonement.
2. There was Joseph Bates in Connecticut who had accepted and was teaching the seventh day Sabbath.
3. James and Ellen White were in Maine. Ellen had received the prophetic gift and under the Lord’s direction James and Ellen were affirming the Sabbath and Sanctuary messages in early 1848. In 1848 several conferences were called with the purpose of discovering from the Bible the true teachings. The first conference was held in an unfinished attic and the following two conferences were held in barns, the only available meeting places that would accommodate the 30-60 people in attendance. Here the leading brethren with those present prayed and studied working out the teaching of the Bible which formed the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Therefore, this barn conference is a reminder of the history, roots, and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
