History

Notes from a conversation with Bruce Lee on December 21, 1978:

Donated to Andrews University about 20 years ago.

Placed in Meier Hall athletic area (N.W. of Campus Center)

Included an ~ 12" reflector with ~ 6" refractor guide scope, mount, and dome (base?)

Apparently the optics were stolen (It became necessary to replace optics)

Under Dr. Bruce Zimmerman the observatory was moved to its present location N.W. of Meier Hall and placed on slab floor and block walls built with the assistance of donated student labor--under energetic and enthusiastic leadership of Pete Black - a physics major at the time

Further notes from Robert Kingman:

1972 - purchased an 8" optical Craftsman

1975 (June 20, requisitioned 6/24/75) 12 1/2 Cave Astrola Newtonian reflector, slow motion electronic controls, orthoscopic eyepieces, observatory mount. From Raymond Sterner; Breezy Acres, Penn.

Summer 1977 Dan Lazlo (alumnus now at medical school) and R. Kingman modified slit to reach zenith.

Summer 1978 - Dan Lazlo - balanced telescope with a 2 1/2" refractor guide scope.
