Biography

Elsie Jackson is professor and chair of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology at Andrews University. She has a master's degree in Child Development and a doctorate in Educational Psychology (with an emphasis in School Psychology), both from the University of Pittsburgh.

Elsie has taught at the elementary, secondary, and university levels and served as director of public and private pre-school centers. She has also served as director of children's services for Western Psychiatric Institute at the University of Pittsburgh and as coordinator of training for daycare staff in western Pennsylvania. As a state-certified psychologist, Elsie conducts psychoeducational assessments and counsels parents, teachers, school administrators, and students.

Elsie's primary interests are in parent- and family-life education, self-esteem development, and women's ministry. She has conducted training programs throughout the United States. In addition, she is co-author of a pre-school curriculum designed to aid teachers in developing activities that will (1) enhance children's self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-respect, and persistence; (2) teach children to love and respect others; and (3) create in children the desire to learn.
