Freshman Highlight: Ashley Yabut

When people look back at their experience, I don’t really want people to remember me, but mainly what Christ has done through me.

Ashley Yabut
freshman, nursing

What high school did you go to?
Thunderbird Adventist Academy in Arizona. Although some might not call an academy their home, I was able to consider Thunderbird my home away from home.

What made Thunderbird special to me was the receptiveness the school gave to get- ting involved in various events and projects on campus. I was extremely involved on campus. I was the music coordinator for the campus, worked with campus ministries, and was also SA president.

What made you choose Andrews?
I don’t know why I chose Andrews. I honestly chose randomly, which sounds bad but I did pray about it. There were actually a couple of schools I could’ve chosen over Andrews and I originally never felt a huge draw to Andrews. I felt like God was telling me that wherever I went, He would bless my journey. However, after taking some time to look at schools, I felt more of an impres- sion to come here. Now looking back at that decision, I feel like I made the right choice based on the great people I’ve met over the course of the semester.

What are you studying and what made you choose it?
I’m studying nursing, originally because I didn’t know what I wanted. My mom thought it would be best for me and I trust my parents’ judgement. However, I do think there’s more to that when choosing a career. What can I do to impact people the best?

So for me, nursing grants the ability to help others in a way that few other professions can do. In the future I’m thinking about becoming a traveling nurse or on occasion becoming a missionary nurse. Honestly, in my mind as long as I’m helping others I’m succeeding.

Is there anything you’re currently in- volved in on campus?
I don't think I’m really involved right now on campus but I am an intern for AFIA and I do sing sometimes on campus.

Is there anything you want to do on this campus?
When people look back at their experience, I don’t really want people to remember me, but mainly what Christ has done through me. So I don’t care about what people think of me. I want people to look at me and see the goodness of God through me or char- acteristics that don’t really involve me but involve God. If that goal is achieved then I’ll feel like I’m making a difference on this campus.
