United Way and Andrews University: Campaign Extended to February 2009!
As we think of Christmas and gifts and the needs of community that surrounds us, I’d
like to invite you to give consideration to supporting the United Way campaign this year. Even if the amount you give is small, the collective amount Andrews Univeristy, and our entire community, give to the United Way will provide help where it’s most needed.
If you’d like more information or need another copy of the contribution form, please contact my executive assistant, Dalry Payne, at 471-3100 or dalry@andrews.edu. Once again, at this time of year and in this kind of economic environment, I encourage you to reach out and give an important gift to our community at the same time we think of giving gifts to our family and friends.
Sincerely yours,
Niels-Erik Andreasen
President, Andrews University
and
Campaign Cabinet Member

Countdown to the Higher Learning Commission Accreditation On-site Visit
March 23-25, 2009
16 Weeks
To prepare for the site visit in March, HLC/NCA Self-Study Committee members are currently in the process of finishing the self-study report. A well -designed report may have many audiences, but the commission is obviously one of the more important. The report bears the weight of providing evidence that Andrews University warrants an affiliated status with the Commission. It allows the evaluation team to conduct an efficient visit; it informs the people who participate in the Commission’s subsequent review and decision-making process. The self-study report links solidly with the findings produced by the self-study process. Finally, the report should summarize the most salient issues raised by the last comprehensive and subsequent teams and evaluate how Andrews University responded to them.
A self-study report requires many supporting documents which will be housed in a Resource Room. The room is well-designed, provides easy on-line access to virtual documents, with exhibits clearly identified and appropriately referenced in the self-study report. These documents range from pages on the Andrews website and a host of other websites, to survey results, committee minutes, local publications like Focus and the Student Movement, documents from Institutional Research, financial records and the results of any assessment done on campus in the last ten years. (12/1/08)

Horn Museum Exhibit Featuring Shabtis
What type of service would you perform if you knew that when the king you served died, you would be killed as well in order to be buried with him and serve him in the afterlife? In ancient Egypt, scholars are still not sure if this happened in the earlier Dynasties. What they do know is that hundreds of tiny figurines were buried with the deceased that were to represent their servants. These small figures, called "Shabtis" ("Ushabits" during the Late Period and following), are featured this week at the Horn Archaeological Museum located between Apple Valley and the University Medical Center on Old Hwy 31. The museum is open Sabbath afternoons from 3-5 p.m. For more information, contact the museum during regular business hours at 269-471-3273. (Posted 11/17/08)
