CRITICAL INFORMATION FOR CURRENT MDIV STUDENTS
COVID-19 A SURVIVAL GUIDE

ACADEMICS

Due to the unexpected life changes that have arisen this semester with the COVID-19 crisis, Andrews University is offering students to request a Pass/No Credit Option for any Spring 2020 semester course. If you feel that the sudden COVID-19 crisis has negatively impacted your ability to earn the grade you would normally have earned, you may request your advisor to receive a Pass or No Credit grade on your transcript in place of the normal A-F grading. You would receive instead a PASS grade on your transcript if you scored above the minimum passing grade for your degree program, or a NO CREDIT if you did not achieve the minimum passing grade. If you choose NO CREDIT, you will need to repeat the class. A Pass/No Credit grade does not affect your GPA, but a pass indicates that you will receive credit for completing the course.

C- for all courses, except Biblical languages, which require a C for Intermediate Greek and a C+ for Hebrew II

This option is for Spring 2020 semester courses only. Please plan carefully as to how this will impact your summer courses and your graduation plans.

Consider whether you are taking the course for a particular licensure or endorsement that requires a specific grade. Recognize that if you receive a NO CREDIT you will need to repeat the course, which could delay your graduation if the course is not offered regularly. If you are not sure, please confer with your advisor.

Because there is no impact to the GPA with the No Credit option, you do NOT need to repeat the identical class, you may choose another from the core elective list. We will NOT need to include/exclude in this situation.

  • After you have received your Spring grades, you will be given the opportunity to request this option. You will receive a form (a link will be provided once it is ready) and you will send the request immediately to your advisor (mdiv@andrews.edu) before the deadline specified. Monitor your AU email address carefully for further information. Please do not contact your advisor before the grades are posted.

What if I can’t complete it by the end of this semester because of all the changes and stress?

  • No. The Pass/No Credit option is for only Spring 2020 registered classes. Please work with your professors and the academic Dean, Dr. Teresa Reeve if you need an extension of your incomplete into Summer semester.

You may. Please request it from the professor PRIOR to the final day of class, as they need to know when they are putting grades in. Please don’t ask for it on the day grades are due for submission. For Spring 2020 only, the University is waiving the fee to take an incomplete, and if you request it, it will be granted.

  • You should email the professor again, and copy the department Administrative Assistant, the Chair and the MDiv office for assistance. Again, don’t leave it to the last minute to make this request.

Greek Placement Exam - For Summer Semester 2020 ONLY

  • The New Testament Department will accept as passing if the student earned a grade of C or better from an undergraduate Intermediate Greek course (must be from an accredited institution)
  • Those who have taken Undergraduate Intermediate Greek within the last two years will be recommended to attend the one week Review Session August 10-14, 2020. Please contact Rachel in the NT office to make arrangements to participate in the review session. sauerr@andrews.edu
  • Those who pass out of Greek under these criteria will not be required to take any further Greek at the Seminary.
  • The same principle applies to those who have only taken Beginning Greek in undergrad. They will be allowed to register to take Intermediate Greek in the Seminary if they have passed their undergraduate Beginning Greek with C- or better.
  • This is a one-time (Covid-19) provision for those entering the program for Summer semester of 2020, and for students already in the MDiv program, who need to take a NT core elective in the summer or register for a fall/spring course. It does not apply to anyone else except by special permission by the Department.
  • MDiv students who wish to take advantage of this provision must contact Mona in the MDiv office at mdiv@andrews.edu

Hebrew Placement Exam - For Summer Semester 2020 ONLY

  • If the student can show that he/she finished Hebrew II (Intermediate Hebrew), during last 12 months and received grade C+ or higher from an accredited institution will be allowed to take OT exegesis and/or OT theology classes during this summer semester (2020). All others are subject to the placement exams offered in August or to register for Hebrew I or II.

Registration is open now.

See the Seminary Schedule for each semester.

Due to the fact that languages are time-consuming and more engaging than regular classes, students are requested to take only one language at a time.

Please see the Andrews University Bulletin for more information about this program and about other Seminary and Andrews University programs and policies.
