Simulation of Li-ion battery for the design and optimization.

Abstract: As more electric vehicles and mobile devices are on the market, it is important to develop a realistic simulation model for better understanding and design. There have been efforts to describe the internal state of batteries; however, improvement is needed as electrochemical battery simulation is very complex and affected by many variables. The goal of this project is to establish a mathematical model to design and develop optimal battery management systems. To achieve the goal, we will start with models for understanding the portable yet powerful Li-ion battery. Once the basic mathematical model and parameterization is completed, it will be expanded to the different operating conditions, geometry, and new materials, etc. My previous research experience in electrochemical sensor development and modeling will strongly support the research. The project will involve all disciplines of engineering. As battery management systems become a very important part of a modern development, this project will contribute to improving portable batteries to meet the growing demands in energy storage
