Christmas at Andrews

Andrews University is getting in the holiday spirit with a variety of upcoming events and concerts for you to enjoy.

The Christmas season officially begins on the Andrews campus with the annual Andrews University Student Association-sponsored Christmas tree lighting, held at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 28, between Nethery Hall and the Administration Building. Enjoy a bit of Christmas music and complimentary hot chocolate.

The Andrews University Wind Symphony, under the direction of Alan Mitchell, kicks off the holiday concert season with their annual Christmas concert in the Howard Performing Arts Center on Saturday evening, December 2, at 8 pm.  The first half of the evening will feature American Overture by Jenkins; Edwina Roa, horn soloist, performing Romanza from Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 3; Scott Joplin's Combination March; Malcolm Arnold's Four Scottish Dances; a German March, and Old Comrades by Carl Teike. The second half of the concert will feature familiar Christmas arrangements of March of the Toys/Toyland; I Saw Three Ships; Candlelight Procession; Divinum Mysterium; The First Noel and Christmas Festival.  The program will conclude with an audience sing-a-long of favorite Christmas tunes. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and can be purchased by calling the Howard Center Box Office at 269.471.3560 or 888.467.6442.

The following weekend features the annual favorite Welcome Christmas Concert featuring the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Claudio Gonzalez, and the University Singers and Chorale, under the direction of Stephen Zork.  The program will include: Sonata for Trumpet and Strings by Henry Purcell; three dances from Tchailovsky's Nutcracker; George Chadwick's Symphonic Sketches, Irvin Berlin's White Christmas; O Magnum Mysterium; Estampie Natalis; John Rutter's What Sweet Music; Go Tell It on the Mountain; Many Moods of Christmas, Suite No. 4; and Adeste Fideles. There will be repeat performances on Saturday, December 9 at 8 pm and Sunday, December 10 at 4 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors and are available by calling the Howard Center Box Office at 269.471.3560 or 888.467.6442.

Finally, wrapping up the concert season, is the WAUS Old-Fashioned Carol Sing on Sunday, December 17, at 6 pm in the Howard Performing Arts Center. Warm up your vocal chords and sing some of your favorite Christmas carols. Admission is free of charge.
