BA: Communication

Skills & Education: The BA Communication program teaches you to be an expert communicator in diverse contexts. You learn communication skills and theory with special reference to improving human interaction.  Emphases are available in International Communication, Communication Management, and Media Technology. A minor or second major is required for this major.

Career Outlook: This program may prepare students for careers as motivational speakers, translators, international aides, business administrators, teachers, counselors, production assistants, or management consultants.  

Prospective Courses: Core communication courses, and others such as persuasion, professional presentations, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, group dynamics, and leadership.

  • International Communication Emphasis
    If you'd like to work in the international arena, then this is the program for you. It includes all core communication courses, as well as courses in anthropology and political science, and other multidisciplinary courses that are chosen in consultation with an advisor. Requirements include participation in the Adventist College Abroad program, the Student Missionary Program or a comparable overseas experience. A second major or minor is not required for this degree.  View suggested courses
  • Communication Management Emphasis
    If managing and being responsible for development and progress interests you, a combination of communication, business, and management will further your goals. This program includes core courses and several upper division courses such as media literacy and organizational communication. Electives are chosen in communication and management (from the School of Business) in consultation with an advisor. An internship in a suitable area is required.   • Media Technology Emphasis
    If working in television, radio, social media, or app development appeals to you, this hands-on, media-focused emphasis is for you. It includes all core communication courses, as well as courses in news editing for electronic media and multimedia journalism, and other multidisciplinary courses that are chosen in consultation with an advisor. An internship in a suitable area is required.
