Biography

Albert L. Reyes, the sixth president of Buckner International, is a visionary whose life’s mission is to develop kingdom leaders from his circle on influence to the ends of the earth. He is a self-described “third generation native Texan of Mexican descent” and holds the struggles and issues of vulnerable children and families served by Buckner close to his heart.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Reyes earned his bachelor of business administration degree in management from Angelo State University and a master of divinity and doctor of ministry in missiology degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He completed a doctor of philosophy degree in global leadership from Andrews University in 2009. Reyes was called to ministry at 15 years old. Decades later, he has led three churches and has a full resume of service in ministry, business, higher education, Baptist life, leadership and children’s issues.

Prior to being named President of Buckner International in January 2010, Reyes has served as President of Buckner Children and Family Services and President of Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio, Texas, where he led the university through an unprecedented period of growth.  Reyes was also first elected non-Anglo president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas in 2005.

Reyes serves on the Board of Directors for the Joint Council on International Children’s Services, the Board of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, and First Command Educational Foundation. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Theological Seminary of Richmond (Va.), and the board of advocates for the Baylor University School of Social Work. He has received numerous awards, including the George W. Truett Ministerial Excellence Award for Singular Achievement and the Founders Award for Lifetime Achievement from Baptist University of the Américas.

Reyes and his wife, Belinda, have three sons. The family enjoys music, camping, movies and travel.
