Considering a career in Occupational Therapy? You can complete the pre-requisites for our Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program right here at Andrews University. Even better, you can earn two degrees in six years instead of seven and save a year of tuition and time with our "3+3" track. Our program is designed to allow students to take an accelerated route to the OTD degree to complete specific requirements in their first 3 years of undergraduate studies and apply for the OTD program. Together, we help you qualify for the Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in pre-OT Degree.
Why is an undergraduate degree in psychology a great foundation for occupational therapy? Psychologists study behavior and the mind, including conscious and unconscious phenomena, both normal and abnormal functioning, and concentrate on behaviors that affect the mental and emotional health of humans. Occupational Therapists assist individuals in learning or re-learning skills to improve their lives. It requires getting to know individuals personally, understanding their goals, and identifying creative ways to allow them to reach their desired levels of independence and productivity. As such, Psychology forms a strong base upon which to build the skills required to become an Occupational Therapist. The Pre-Occupational Therapy concentration is designed as a pre-professional interim degree for students pursuing the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at Andrews University. Students' fourth year of undergraduate study will overlap with the first year of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, allowing students to complete the Undergraduate and Doctoral Programs in less time.
Want to take the traditional route and complete a 4-year bachelor's degree prior to starting the OTD program? You can also do that here at Andrews University! As long as you complete the prerequisites for the OTD program other degrees are an option. Here are the programs Andrews has to offer and here are the prerequisites for the OTD program.
