Biography

Tamara Karr is the newly appointed Director of the Architecture Resource Center, a branch of the James White Library at Andrews University. Tamara previously worked at the Center for Adventist Research for five years as the Collection Associate. In this capacity, she managed over 1,400 multi-lingual periodicals covering various disciplines, and provided information services to off-site and visiting researchers. Tamara is a graduate of Andrews University (B. S., 2003), Plymouth State University (M.A.T., 2008), and Wayne State University (Master of Library and Information Science, 2021). She recently completed an internship at the Studebaker National Museum as part of her library science graduate program. Prior to her work at Andrews University, she taught Art, Art History, Digital Photography, Photoshop, and Desktop Publishing at the high school level in Taipei, Taiwan, for two years

In addition to her academic preparation and experience, Tamara brings creativity, collegiality, dedication to service, and a wealth of artistic and technical skills to her new role. An avid hiker and mountain bike enthusiast, she enjoys outdoor adventures, yet is equally at home with a cup of tea, chocolates, and an episode of her favorite British TV shows.
Tamara holds memberships in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) due to her interests in big data and the use of artificial intelligence in archives, and in the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) where she nurtures her interest in design. She looks forward to participating in EDRA’s first virtual conference in May. Tamara welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the students and faculty of the School of Architecture and Interior Design on engaging research in the arts, architecture, and the environment, and in facilitating an inviting and caring atmosphere at the ARC.
