Course Objectives:

  1. The student will renew an overview of the history of the early Christian church including a basic familiarization of several major theological, ecclesiastical and social themes. Emphasis will be placed on gaining the ability to research a given Scripture passage as interpreted by the early Christians.  Themes of particular interest to Seventh-day Adventists will be explored (Sabbath/Sunday, creation, immortality, etc.), as well as themes which can challenge an Adventist self-understanding (asceticism, liturgy, persecution, etc.).
  2. The student may also gain an appreciation of the tall shoulders on which we stand today as we interpret Scripture, do theology and practice our Christianity through living and worship.
  3. The student will also learn to evaluate the traditions of the Christian Church as to their validity and value.

Please note the following: 

  1. Students are expected to to arrive on time and stay for the duration of the course schedule: class begins on Sunday at 3p.m. - Thursday at 8 p.m. as outlined in the syllabus.  

  2. Reading Assignments are due on November 10, 3 p.m.

  3. Students must complete the required Pre-read BEFORE the week of the class.

  4. There will be a quiz on Sunday November 10, 2013
