Biography

Félix H. Cortez is a Professor of New Testament Literature at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

He was born into a pastoral family and learned about Jesus by hearing his father preach and from his mother as she read the Great Controversy series over and over at family worship. While still very young, he accompanied his father when he visited church members, gave Bible studies, and preached at church meetings. He was baptized at 9 years of age, began working as a pastor at 20, and became the youth ministries director for the Central conference in Mexico at 25.

Félix is mesmerized by the portrait of Jesus in Scripture, especially in the book Hebrews. As he reads, studies, and explores the Scriptures, he is constantly surprised and awed by what God did through Jesus and what Jesus revealed about God.

God has blessed richly with his family. He is married to Alma Gloria Alvarez and has two children: Hadid, a pastor at the New Jersey Conference, and Alma, a doctoral student at New York University. Cortez enjoys reading, sightseeing, sports, music, running, and woodworking.
