Class standing refers to the amount of fulfilled college credit a student has acquired on their transcript. This may include college courses taken in high school, through an online university program, courses taken abroad, or appropriate transfer credit. Class standing has an impact on dormitory assignments and financial aid awards.
Students will not advance to the next class standing until they have reached the minimum amount of credits for that standing. For example: Students who have 24 credits (or less) at the end of their first year at Andrews will continue to be classed as freshmen they have earned 25 or more credits.
Advisors should guide students to take enough credits per semester to ensure that they attain the next level of class standing by the end of the academic year.
If this is not possible or students decide to take a smaller load, these students have several options for college credit opportunities:
Please note: Courses which are taken which are below college credit are not counted towards a student’s credit totals to advance them to the next class standing.
For example: MATH091 and MATH092 are pre-college credits and do not apply toward class standing. Please see the Course Numbers chart for more information regarding non-college credit courses.
