Computer Access on Campus

Information Technology Services

Computer and network services are provided through the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, located in the Information Technology Building.

Andrews Username

All students are assigned a username that can be used for email, accessing network and Internet resources, logging on to Registration Central, and for storing information on web pages.

Information Technology (IT) Access

Students can access IT resources from:

Residence Hall Rooms
(100 mbits/sec)
University Apartments (high-speed Internet--speed varies with location)
The community through dial-up modems (92 connections at 56 kbits/sec depending on telephone line quality)
A wireless network on campus (56 mbits/sec shared network covering most buildings and some outdoor areas)
Computers located in computer labs (over 100 computers available in general purpose labs with many others available in departmental labs)

The University has a connection to the Internet allowing for a maximum of 170 mbits/sec to and from Internet resources off campus.

Computer Systems and Software

Microsoft Windows Operating System and Office software as well as antivirus software are available for students through campus agreements. Students may obtain the software for only the cost of the media. The Computer Store (located in the Information Technology Building) has a large variety of computer-related items available for sale. On occasion, special computer system packages including a desktop or laptop computer are available for very reasonable prices.

Assistance with computer-related questions is available via the Helpdesk, located in the
Computer Store (471-6016).

Appropriate Use of Resources

Students are expected to use IT resources within legal requirements as well as within the philosophy of Andrews University. Access must not be gained without authorization and individuals must not use excessive levels of resources. Anyone who inappropriately utilizes these resources may lose access to them.
