This plant, Zamia furfuracea, is better known as the cardboard plant. This is due to the fuzzy brown covering on the underside of the leaves – some believe it feels like cardboard. The cardboard plant is a cycad, a type of plant that often looks like a palm tree, but is not at all closely related. Cycads do not produce flowers, but rather produce cones (like the conifer trees we are well familiar with).
